We have some outstanding professional learning opportunities on the immediate horizon. For the most part, the registration deadlines are this week but we have some spots available and I want to make sure you are aware of them.

Creating Global Citizens: Developing World Perspectives

February 7, 2014 • Phoenix

Join us for Creating Global Citizens: Developing World Perspectives where math and science experts guide participants through ways in which they can cultivate students as 21st century, global thinkers through inquiry and investigation. Participants will learn more about New Global Citizens and their 10 Global Issues, and practicing STEM classroom teachers will help participants engage with New Global Citizens' co-curricular materials that are aligned to Arizona College and Career Ready Math Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards.

Literacy 2.0

February 13, 2014 • Phoenix

Are you a fan of Doug Fisher? Then you will likely be interested in learning from his co-author and partner, Nancy Frey as she guides you through Literacy 2.0. Join Nancy as she guides you through her co-authored book Literacy 2.0. She will describe exactly what students need to become proficient with information and communication technologies. Through this one-day workshop, you will learn:

An instructional model that is effective in supporting technological literacy

Specifics of teaching Literacy 2.0 skills related to acquiring, producing, and sharing information

Skills such as evaluating information found on websites, avoiding plagiarism, working collaboratively, and creating multi-media products.

This event is truly relevant across all grade levels. Your day will include the training, continental breakfast, lunch, breaks, and the book Literacy 2.0 by Nancy Frey and Doug Fisher.

Infuse Geometry Manipulatives into the Common Core: Grades 5-8

February 19, 2014 - April 30, 2014 • Phoenix

This professional learning opportunity will support math educators to connect students' arithmetic, algebraic thinking, and conceptual understanding of geometry within the Common Core framework for grades 5 - 8. While playing with base ten blocks, geoboards, pattern blocks as well as traditional geometric tools, participants will focus on geometric ways of seeing multiplication, division, and proportional reasoning. This three-workshop series will equip teachers to design for the Common Core Standards in the domains of Geometry, Number & Operations, and Ratios & Proportional Relationships while incorporating the Standards for Mathematical Practice.
